In the late fall of 2022, Dolce & Gabbana created a celebration in Miami, the latest in the brand’s annual Alta Moda offering. It hosted several events at several hotspots in the city, such as Design Miami and the Luxury Living Store. The D&G brand that made a name for itself disrupting women’s fashion and men’s fashion decades ago continues to trend up as an important creator of world fashion. Now, so many years later, it found itself making waves on South Beach as the world’s glitterati gathered to see its new Latin-inspired collections.
Why Did Dolce & Gabbana Start Alta Moda?
The brand Dolce & Gabbana has been around since 1985, but Alta Moda didn’t begin until 2012. It was launched by D&G as the ultimate lifestyle community for the most discerning international clientele. It is also a kind of homage to how Dolce & Gabbana began, merging classic Italian looks with world-class imaginations. Alta Moda merges the brand with various cultures from across the globe and then shows the world these creations amidst the multicultural splendor of an international locale.
Atla Moda is also a tip of the cap to the old style of creating clothing. Indeed, part of the purpose is the preservation of the artisanal fatto a mano way of working from traditional bottegas. Dominique Dolce revealed that about 100 looks will be shown in Miami, salon-style, each of which is completely unique and handmade and can take up to six months to produce.
Why Did Dolce & Gabbana Choose Miami for Alta Moda 2022?
Miami is known as the Magic City and is a cultural crossroads. It’s where American, Latin and European cultures commingle. Dominique Dolce has spoken about his love for Latin culture and how he views Latin culture as a natural extension of the Dolce & Gabbana brand. He’s also spoken about how the metropolis is such a draw to so many people because of the weather, expansion and development.
The brand approached the application of Latin culture from an outsider’s perspective, pulling traditional dress, like a flamenco dancer’s polka dots, into its world. The aim was to get inside the culture and to show respect, along with subtle and flamboyant impressions of that culture subsumed by Dolce & Gabbana. Color choices, materials and cuts have all been processed through the D&G/Latin lens. The result is red dresses that are made up of so many tassels and suits that make the men look regal and elegant.
How Does Dolce & Gabbana Stay Relevant?
Dolce & Gabbana is as relevant now as it ever has been. As a brand, events like the Alta Moda/Casa Miami Takeover keep reproving to the world that it still has its finger on the proverbial pulse of fashion. In this case, it brought Latin culture into the fold and brought forth hundreds of handmade outfits to celebrate it.
